I don't get it

I am not one for watching numbers. I don't feverishly watch my Facebook page likes (although I did notice today that it is a nice round number - you can win your very own Stan if you comment here). I don't like all those 'Hike Your Likes' type pages. I want people to find  my page and genuinely want to see me in their newsfeed. Most hated comment.....'new like from blah blah, return the like'.....errr NO!!! I won't 'like' a page unless I actually want to see more from that page. I will take the time to visit your page, leave comments and interact with you. If I like your page it means I actually do...well okay there are a couple of exceptions where I ;
A: feel obliged to like you for some reason
B: need to for 'networking' purposes...boring but necessary
C: need to keep tabs on people......
Don't act so surprised, everyone has a fb 'friend' that fits in to these boxes.

Anyway, I've gone off on a tangent. Numbers is where I was. Occasionally I have a look to see how many people read my blog posts. What is more popular? What do you guys want to read about? For example, more of you wanted to read about Vintage Books than Meet Betty.

That's good, I can work with that. BUT when it comes to good ol' Facebook...well......what can I say....
An average post reaches maybe a third, sometimes more, of my fans/likes. A post like this for example-

or even this - two thirds saw this.

But nearly FOUR times as many people viewed this!!! That's way more than my total fans/likes!!

CAT FOOD
REALLY? Is this what you guys want to see?
Might need to rethink my creative business.

Good night folks

*all my hard work and they love adult chunks in jelly*

  2. I totally agree, I can't see the point of collecting 'likes' for 'likes' sake, they become totally meaningless!

    1. Exactly, and before long your newsfeed is clogged with dull stuff so you start to 'hide' pages. What's the point ;-)

Thanks for reading my blog and leaving a comment.

  3. Completely agree. Give me genuine likers rather than the 'Hike your Likes' brigade any day of the week!

I have to admit that I am guilty of sharing the catfood picture, simply because it brightened my day and made me laugh! It's been a tough few weeks in the Bagolo household and not a lot has made me laugh so please forgive me on this occasion!

Anyhow, before I turn this into a blog about a blog PLEASE don't give up on the creative stuff because you are rather good at it! x

    1. Thank you Sarah, you have put a smile on my face. I think we all need a good chuckle as often as possible, which is why I felt compelled to share 'adult chunks in jelly' ...my family were getting fed up with me mentioning it every time I fed the cat.
Thanks for reading and blogging a comment ;-)

  4. So were you genuinely sharing what was quite a funny picture which was likely to cause some amusement or was it all part of an experiment to help pen a blog?

    1. Oh if only I were that organised. If I'd done it as an experiment and thought so many would see it I'd have stood Stan by the tin and added a link to my shop!!!

  6. this is a spot on post about something that is driving me mental too.
I would much rather have 1 person who really loves my work than 3000 who just come and like randomly! I do love your work though! (in a genuine way not in a like me back way!!!)

  7. I'm with Caroline.
I report comments as 'spam' if people land on my page and demand I like them back.
'Facebook Seagulls' I believe they are called.
Well they can go and pooh on other pages, not mine!!
Nice to hear someone else tell it like it is for a change. :)

    1. Face seagulls!!! I like that, and living in a town where we have loads of them it seems apt.

  8. All so true...I know people who have left fb because they felt obliged to keep 'liking' their friends' comments/pics. The tin of adult chunks was just plain funny. And a laugh is a great way to begin your day :-D

  9. Totally get this - it does your head in to second guess this stuff, but frankly, the mainstream jelly shot is just that - a quick funny fluff piece that guarantees good virality, but has nothing to do with your regular content.
Oh and, for the record, you are one of my genuine likes...

    1. We can't let life get too serious so I'm glad you like my funny fluff. Thanks for being a genuine like, I am most definitely one of yours too :-)

  10. One of my genuine likes too! I only like to like pages that I'd be happy to endorse or for other people to know that I liked. It's a tricky one though, because I have made genuine crafting friends through liking their page. I think I'd HAVE to actually like what they are doing/making/saying too though. For the record, your funny picture brightened my day too as I walked out of the door into yet more rain. BUT, I will always love most to see pics of your studio and work. That's what makes me buzz....fellow creatives doing their thang.
